Another Awesome Stroke Survivor

I'd like to give a warm shout out to Stacy who I met through this blog.  Stacy has also had an ischemic stroke and is recovering beautifully.  She's an inspiration to me and I'm so glad we are getting to know each other.

I love that I'm finding this newfound family through such a terrible incident.  It's one of the positive things we should keep in mind whenever something bad happens to us.  There's always a silver lining :)

Yay Stacy, thank you for telling me your story.  :)

  2. Hi Eljon. My name is David Stoller. I am friends with Othello Glenn. The same exact thing happened to me when I was 28 yrs old. I had a torn peice of tissue from my carodid artery brake off and caused a stroke. The doctors initially told me I might have had meningitis. I had a spinal tap my first night at NYU downtown hospital. I was still not diagnosed with a stroke until a week later when I went to a hospital in Philadelphia. After I left getting an MRI about five days after the stroke I got a phone call saying I might have herpes on my brain and that I need to get to the ER immedietly. My dad drove me to the hospital outside Philly and they told me they would figure out what happened to me. I had the severe migrain and couldn't process conversations properly. The next day they gave me a second MRI which followed from a diagnosis that I have brain cancer. I had to live with that information for a night. The following morning all the doctors walked in my room and told me I had a stroke. I was very happy to hear that news since I wanted to live more then six monthes. Basically the clot moved in between the two MRI's I had which showed the clot moving. Obviously brain cancer doesn't move around. I was put on coumadin for six monthes and had another MRI to ensure my artery healed which it did. I think it took me about a year and half to get back to where I was saying,"I feel like my brain is 90% back to normal." The thing is I don't think you ever get it all back, but it does get better as time goes by. I am now 31 and still have a slight difficulty in loud situations processing information but I feel fine now. Don't be afraid, your brain will only get better in time.

  3. Hi David. I'm so sorry to hear about your experience. Do the doctors know why the tissue broke off from your artery? How scary....I love how doctors tell you you might have this and you might have that which just ends up scaring you more! They told me I might have MS! I'm so glad you feel fine now. Thank you so much for sharing your story. You are so brave. :)
